General Rules for Horse Pulling
Eastern Draft Horse Association Rules apply and are used as guidelines. Chairmen reserve the right to disqualify animals or personnel for violations of the rules of this draw, or if the condition of an animal warrants it. Owner-driver and two helpers are the only persons allowed in the ring. Use of reins will be allowed lightly on the hindquarters only. This rule will be strictly enforced. Please use Livestock Entry Form to register.

Eastern Draft Horse Association REGULATIONS GOVERNING INTERNATIONAL HORSE PULL :
- All horse teams competing in International Horse Pull shall not weigh less than 2800 lbs. And not over 3300 lbs
- All teamster taking part in the contest to draw for placing
- Only one teamster to each team, but two helpers are allowed when hooking on the drag in case of accident or breakage only.
- Any teamster judged to be under the influence of alcohol will not be allowed to compete.
- The light use of the reins on the hindquarters only may be permitted on the entry to the ring while the team is making the draw. Absolutely no butt reins on the grounds. No cruelty will be allowed to any animal on the exhibition grounds. No profane language to be used during the contest. Any teamster committing any of these offenses will forfeit his right in the contest.
- Lines are to be used of wood 12 ft. apart. Any front foot of the team over the rail while pulling will loose that start. Two front feet over the rail while pulling, teams will be eliminated but not disqualified.
- Pulling distance to be 36 inches in one start. Teamsters will have three tries to do so. In case of breakage, after repairs are made the teamster will be allowed to break the drag loose by a side pull, which will not count as one of the three starts. A time limit of 15 minutes will be allowed for each team to complete their pull. If breakage occurs time off will be allowed with a maximum of 15 minutes. Each swing will constitute as a pull at the judges decision
- A Teams will remain hooked to the drag until completion of maximum load.
- Maximum starting load for teams will be an amount equal to the nearest hundred weight below the actual weight of the team.
- A Winner of the International Horse Pull shall be the team hauling the heaviest load.
- All teams competing in the International Horse Pull will weigh at their qualifying pulls and then again at Cumberland Fair. This means every team will weigh in twice. All teams shall be allowed to weigh in upon arrival at the fair grounds, each team will be allowed to check weigh once prior to the official weigh in. The official weight will be not under 2800 lbs. And not over 3300 lbs. With a 25 lb. Tolerance being allowed to the top end only making it 3325 lbs. any team weighing more than the weight allowed will take the last place prize. Two teams weighing out shall split last two places etc.
- Adding weights to the drag not to exceed 1000 lbs. At one time.
- After the team is hooked to the drag the first pull will be a free start.
- Only one entry per farm unit or family with same driver in all three events.
- In case of a tie the greatest distance determines the winner.
- All visiting teams and teamsters must be at Cumberland Fair Tuesday of the fair and stay until the Grand Parade in completed on Saturday. These teams must be in the parade.
- All Canadian International Horse teams will be allowed to compete at Cumberland Fair in the fairs open classes as long as their teams are on the fair grounds by 12:00 noon Sunday, opening day of the fair.
- Teams will pull distance (American style) at the South Shore Exhibition each year and pull heavy load (Canadian style) at the Cumberland Fair. American and Canadian judges at both International pull.
